Dear Parishioners of St. Peter’s,
The Christmas season has formally concluded, but its powerful images and
messages of hope and renewal call us throughout the year to reflect on
how we say “yes” to extending God’s presence in our world. One key way
we do this is in our interactions as a parish community.
We come together at Mass, in the sacraments, and in parish activities
to pray, to celebrate joys, to mourn losses, to serve others, to provide
support and to receive strength for daily life. All of these services
and activities are made possible through the generosity of your time and
talent as well as through the financial pledges you make each year.
The parish’s annual budget is based on the commitments made during the
annual parish appeal. We understand many parishioners have had to make
difficult decisions about their resources. We know this through the calls
for assistance we have received, and in the decline in contributions,
which has been reported in the bulletin each week.
Just like you, we’ve had to be careful financial managers in order to
provide the crucial services and support needed in this time of greater
need. Working together, we have been able to hold the line, yet we continue
to diligently manage our budget in the face of expense pressures. These
expenses include utilities, insurance, salaries and basic maintenance
of the property and buildings.
It is truly humbling too see what we as a community have accomplished
this past year. In ways great and small, we have extended God’s presence
to many families and individuals, members and non-members alike.
Commitment Sunday is February 7th. Now is the time to prayerfully consider
your annual tithe. If you’ve been blessed this year, consider increasing
your pledge from last year. I ask you to trust in God’s loving presence
and sure guidance as you make your decision. Your commitment will enable
us to continue the ministry of healing and hope God calls us to.
