After School Homework Club

If you would be interested in having your child attend a supervised after school study session, please e-mail or call Angie Meyer (ameyer@stpeterskc.org or 523.4899, ext. 215). Detailed information will be in next week’s packet.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

The Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a wonderful ministry that volunteers from St. Peter’s parish provide children in kindergarten-fourth grades. Our mission is to provide the children with the readings for Mass that are on their level of understanding. The children love the interactive homily and Prayers of the Faithful in which they are full participants. This is not babysitting, but is an extension of the liturgy, done at the children’s level.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word will take place during the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Masses every Sunday during the school year, except the third Sunday of the month, provided that we have enough adult volunteers to lead each week. The program will start on September 30. All children in grades K-4 are invited.

Anyone interested in being a Children’s Liturgy leader, please contact Mike Thomas in the parish office (363.2320, ext. 129 or mthomas@stpeterskc.org). There will be a brief meeting on Sunday, Sept. 23, following the 9:00 a.m. Mass for all current and prospective leaders.

Bonfire

Brand this date on your calendar! Mosey on over to beautiful Lone Summit Ranch on Saturday, October 20, for western fun at Bonfire ’07. This fall fundraiser for F.I.R.E. (Foundation for Inclusive Religious Education) will raise funds to provide children with special needs the opportunity for an inclusive education in their home parish schools. Athletics

Volleyball: The volleyball season has officially started with tournaments and league play underway. St. Peter’s has 12 teams competing this year. What a great showing of talent! The McKay Center will again be host to many of these games. Parents, please review your calendars and sign up to help out at the McKay Center as either a gate or concessions stand volunteer. (You can sign up at www.spsac.org with your username and password or contact Bill Wirtz at 816.333.2357 if you have problems with your username or password or to sign up directly.) Each family is required to work a shift and support your daughter’s team commitments. Check out the Parochial League’s website (www.plkc.org) for the schedule of the games. The website also has directions to all gyms.

Football: The St. Peter’s football season has also started! Both the 5/6 and 7/8 grade teams have begun competition. They are playing well and having fun. The playoffs are in late October, so come support the team if you get a chance. As a reminder, all games and standings are posted on the CYO website (www.cyojwa.org). Directions to the playing fields are also on the website.
