Kindergarten Newsletter

September 14, 2007

Language:  Each of the kindergarten classes have been working on creating classroom books. Each child writes or dictates a sentence that goes along with the theme of the week.  The teacher then cuts that sentence apart.  The student will receive the words that belong in the sentence.  Each child will put them back in order and then glue the sentence to the page.  The child then illustrates his/her page.  The pages are compiled to make a classroom book.  The two we have already made have been favorite books during quiet reading time!

Math:  Have you heard about Zero the Hero?  If you haven’t, ask your child who this is and when this hero will visit our classroom!  Our current theme in math is patterns, patterns, patterns!  We have been extending our simple patterns and learning how to make more complex ones.

Religion:  This week the children completed the Creation Story.  They illustrated each page and looked for words that they might recognize.  We shared these books with our Reading Buddies.  We also have been discussing the gifts God has given to us.  We will continue to practice making the Sign of the Cross and learn the Morning Prayer.

Social Studies:  We have been discussing our houses and the different types of homes around our neighborhood.  We will soon be learning our addresses and why they are important.

Reminders:

*If you have not signed your child up for Mystery Reader or Student of the Week, please go by the classroom and sign up.

*Please continue to send in items for the treasure box!  All donations have been greatly appreciated!
