HEALTH:  Grades 6-8

Grades 6-8 have been reviewing the connection between our bodies, minds, and souls and the impact each of these areas has on our total health.  In eighth grade we have been looking at risk behaviors specific to teens and exploring the ways in which the choices we make today can affect us far into the future.  Seventh graders have been discussing what responsible decisions look like and have been analyzing real-life situations. Sixth graders have been delving into the various factors that affect our health and have been looking specifically at the way print media influences us.

All students have been using a variety of group activities and skits as they focus on their different topics of study.

This year in Health, I will ask the students to be especially mindful of health-related issues in the news.  Students will be expected several times a year to find current articles/stories and complete a summary, outline, essay, or other written analysis of what they read.  As you read the newspaper and magazines this year, please be aware of that and possibly save articles of interest.  All classes will be assigned their first article at the end of this week and first part of next.  When we speak of “health” we always try to emphasize that health is bigger than just physical.  Topics that relate to our mental and spiritual health are welcome.

Students have been asked to have a folder and a spiral notebook and should be coming prepared to class with those items.  Our health classroom could use hand sanitizer—if you are able to send 1-2 bottles with your student, I would be most appreciative.

Please feel free to call or email me if you ever have any questions or concerns.
