The Preschool Patriot

Mrs. Tanner’s ECLC—August 30, 2007

Reading/Language Arts:

We enjoyed learning about ladybugs.   This is our smorgasbord week.  We have read books about watermelons, peanut butter, cakes, pancakes, and muffins. Peanut Butter and Jelly, If You Give a Pig a Pancake, and If You Give a Moose a Muffin were fun to read and gave us opportunities to write and illustrate during writer’s worshop.  We are learning to write our names.  Ask us to sing “The Pencil Grip” song.

Math:

During calendar time we are learning the days of the week.  We have a fun song we sing that has a food for each day of the week.  Ask us to sing it for you!  We also graphed if we thought watermelon was a fruit or a vegetable, if we liked peanut butter, and our favorite cake.  Graphs are great for counting and looking at data.  We have been working on patterns also.  We made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on our own and discussed the sequence we do to make a PB&J. We are so smart!

Religion:

We acted out The Creation.  We let our ladybugs loose in Ray’s garden to eat the aphids.  While in the garden we looked at the wonderment of nature that God created.  Every morning and afternoon we do a compliment circle—we turn to the person next to us and give them a compliment.  It is awesome to see these wonderful children give others a compliment.

Science/Social Studies:

Real world experiences are the best!  The T/Th class let the ladybugs go in the garden and the MWF crew went to the garden to see how watermelons grow on the vine.  Watermelons are vegetables we learned also!  The T/TH group shelled peanuts and put them in the food processor with sugar and oil and watched them turn into peanut butter.

Art/Movement/Music/Cooking

We painted watermelons using watercolors on paper plates.  We made peanut man puppets.  We are working on our cutting skills, especially cutting circles.  We danced to the “Ladybug Hoedown.”  We sang “The Peanut Butter Song” and performed the actions.  We really love using the microphone to sing our songs.  We made peanut butter, mini cakes, and pancakes!  Yum!

It is going to be a “Beary” exciting week on September 4-7.

Teddy Bear Sleepover:

Bring in your favorite stuffed Teddy Bear!

The bears will visit during the day, then go home with you each day . . .EXCEPT on Tuesday and Wednesday, our bears will spend the night (so please don’t send a bear with which your child sleeps).

Our Everyday Friends’ Bears will stay both nights with a different adventure each night!

We will predict what we think our bear will do on the sleepover!

Teddy Bear Picnic:

What do bears like?  Honey!!!  We will make bear biscuits with honey to take on a picnic!

Bear Hunt:

Pack your binoculars and hiking boots; we will go on a bear hunt!

WARNING:  Learning can be lots of “Beary” Good Fun so beware and don’t forget your bear!
